716 pages of useless texts. nothing in depth at all. For example, chapter "using Facebook as a marketing tool" focuses on 1) adding profile picture 2) Adding cover photo, 3) adding pin to your page 4)Likes, private messages, and notifications 5) Filling out your about section 6) Like other brands and 7) creating Facebook events... that's about it...

I am very disappointed in this book; everything was a BIG paint brush approach. There was very little on the techniques and tips of how to really use SM to your advantage. Guess you need a book for each SM type.

This is not a basic book. I tried to read it and it's just technical jargon. This is more about programming and stuff - definitely not for a "dummy " or beginner and there isn't much about social media, social networks or marketing so to me, the title is misleading

I highly recommend this translation of Dante's Inferno. For many years, Ciardi's translation has been the standard and it has much to recommend it. But Ciardi's rhymed stanzas are looser, wordier, and less faithful to the original than Thornton's blank verse. Thornton brings us closer to what Dante wrote. And the excellent notes at the end of each canto help bring this masterpiece to life for a modern reader.

With decades of study and meticulous craftsmanship, Dr. Peter Thornton has offered his translation of “The Inferno.” I do not know Italian, but I have read a couple of other translations of “The Inferno,” and I found this one the best for several reasons. First, the poetry is vivid. I felt like orange flames and the stench of Sulphur were my companions as much as were Dante and Virgil.The verse itself is a second reason I liked this translation. The meter – iambic pentameter, the ordinary meter of the English language – does not intrude into the poetry itself. That is, I wasn’t conscious of stretching of words or awkward diction for the sake of the meter.You can enjoy the translation without bothering to read the footnotes, but once you start, you are off on another journey, equally absorbing – this one through contemporary (to Dante) Florentine history, Christian metaphors and allusions, Roman legend and mythology, and Catholic scholars from Augustine on.Read the translation; savor the footnotes. There’s always room for a fresh version of hell.

THANK YOU !! I've been trying to expose my kids to more of the classics. But every translation of the Divine Comedy I've come across has been so difficult that I couldn't even get through Hell (felt like hell trying to read it). UNTIL NOW !!! Thank you Mr. Douglas Neff for this translation. It keeps all the flavor, tension, and character; and stays true to the original story. Reading this translation, I find myself more absorbed and engaged in trying to understand what Dante was trying to get across, and why he picked certain persons for certain levels, and doing research into some of the people, places, vices, etc. that he talks about, instead of spending hours trying to decipher the actual language of the translation. My 7 year old is totally engaged, while at the same time, my 15 year old and I are getting into some very interesting discussions (Dante put Pope Celestine V with those souls who neither heaven nor hell want, because he resigned as Pope . . . I wonder what that means for old former pope Benedict XVI / cardinal Ratzinger who just did the same thing). And none of us are getting ground down by having to stop and try and translate the language.I cannot encourage you strongly enough to get this book. You will not be disappointed. I'm now trying to find a comparable translation of Purgatory and Paradise so we can complete the story.

Dante's THE INFERNO is a classic. Written around 1321, the book predates most of the classics, except Homer's works of course. But even before Shakespeare, this book heralded in an uncommonly twisted and almost perverse story of Dante's descent into Hell and his description of everything he sees and those he meets. It's eloquently written. Not necessarily an easy read but it does tribute to the language and reminds the reader that our vernacular has so much more color than the reductio ad absurdum we see being used today. Dante's descriptions of the nightmare that sinners endure at each level is pretty graphic, sometimes bordering on horrifying, and who knows, he might even be credited with the first narrative on the subject of flesh-eating zombies which are so popular today. The narrative also gives the reader a feel for certain historical relevancies of that and earlier times and how Dante saw the world. This particular version of the book, by John Ciardi, provides excellent descriptive notes after each section, clarifying things mentioned in the story so the reader stays on track. Lastly, I could not help but wonder if the Vatican of that time didn't encourage the book to be written simply because of its thematic message of what happens to sinners, particularly those who sin against God and the Church or become apostates. It certainly provides compelling imagery to anyone who believes in Heaven and Hell. Add it to your reading arsenal - it's worth the read.

This book was recommended by my taiji teacher, who doesn't recommend very many books (4 in 10 years). I've been a student of taoism, zen, yoga, and meditation for over 20 years, and this is an excellent synthesis of the wisdom of these paths. I wish I had found it decades ago, if I could have understood it, I might not have taken so long to value the teachings as I do today.

I am not a HUGE reader of Osho by any means, but I find that about once a year I am grabbed by some of his works/teachings and quickly find myself enjoying the wisdom and real life applications.You get a chapter of his teachings, and then a chapter of questions asked by his students and answered by Him, off and on throughout the whole book. I particularly enjoyed the question and answer chapters, because he answers such a wide variety of questions, from students asking about clarifications, or opinions from osho of what happens to us when we die. To a student outright saying that what he is teaching is all Bull&^%!. Which osho handles in his typical no nonsense candor.Osho has a large following and the fact that he does not ascribe to one religious tradition, but yet draws from them all even the abrahamic, and spins wisdom from such a vast point of view, I find his point of views and teachings to be constantly a breath of fresh air.This being said though, there are some things which Osho states within most his works, which you may find offensive, and at times he does contradict himself. Which he openly admits throughout this work, and the ones of his which I have read. But this side of things is saved by the times he really hits the nail on the head.From those I have talked to about osho, it seems that many either love him or hate him. I have heard many say that they could not follow his style of writing, and it is a bit, strange, but this is also because all of his books are verbal lessons which have been put into writing. So the text reads like someone speaking to you directly, which is how these lessons were originally given. Though I have always found that after reading the first 20 or 30 pages this disorientation with the writing goes away and you get used to it!If you are just starting out with Osho, I would suggest you start with a shorter bit of work from him, because this book is dense both in page count and in topic. But not so dense, that if you are feeling brave you won't understand what he is talking about. But I would suggest being familiar with at least one of his other, shorter works first; you will get a lot more out of this wonderful book!The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars, was that it was a bit long, I know some of you are going, "Come on this is Osho we are talking about here, the man gave thousands of hours of lectures and Q&A's" and I agree, and I don't know how you would pair this down, quite honestly, I don't think it should be, but it got to be a bit of a labor in the last 100 pages or so to finish.Overall a wonderful book and great widsom from a one of a kind, and marvelous teacher.As far as my recommendation of starting with his "smaller" works, you will find on Amazon, that many of his books have (OSHO Classics, or OSHO Life essentials) after the initial title, any of these books which may peak your interest would be a good place to first familiarize yourself with his teachings!Great book! I highly recommend it!

OSHO is a phenomenal teacher, he shares the ancient wisdom with experiences and real life examples which to me is the most essential component of any type of teaching. If you are a good teacher you should be able to explain complex concepts in simple layman terms and this book accomplishes that. 5 stars!

I am enjoying the book so far. It is rear in the current era to hear such an authentic voice and read the real thing. He had his special ways to look at things. I read the Chinese Secret of the Golden Flower and I knew it was a meditation guide book. Oho had extended the idea and expanded it. I like his ideas. The only thing I am a little frustrated is that this book is too long and I felt it would take forever to finish reading it. All in all, it is a good book!

This book had me hooked by the end of the second short chapter, and apparently I don’t have much willpower, as I devoured the rest in a 24-hour period. The brisk pacing and mystery box format, with deftly handled multiple points of view, are addictive. The main protagonist, Ji Lin, is endearing, as is the houseboy Ren, and I found myself rooting for each through all the twists and turns of their adventures. This is easily my favorite of all the new books I’ve read in the past year. (And no, I did not receive a free advance copy—bought this for myself and am glad I did!)

Interesting plot, like able characters and I must have liked it because I want a sequel. Learning about other cultural beliefs threaded into a suspenseful story.

I read this in one sitting. It took me to another time and place, and I couldn't put it down. And when I reached the end, I had to go back and read it a second time--this time slowly, savoring all my favorite moments.I also read The Ghost Bride, and I enjoyed this one more.

Could not put it down. I swapped between the audio and the kindle and finished it in one go. Even better than the Ghost Bride. Yangsze has the native's grasp of her place, and the time could be from grandparent's tales. But the mystery had me going to the end! The romance was very realistically nuanced as well.

This was such an interesting story line and glimpse into Malaysian culture. This is definitely book club worthy - truly fascinating.

What kind of book is this? It is at once an adventure, a mystery, a romance, a coming of age piece, a cultural exploration, a spiritual drama, a quest. But, whatever you call it, The Night Tiger is just a really, really good story. The character development and scene development were fantastic. I felt as if I was in Malaya, watching real people. The plot was also unique; just when you think you know what will happen, you are wrong. But, what happens still makes sense. It is one of those books that I read quickly, because I wanted to find out what happened, but then I missed Ren and Ji Lin when it was over.

After reading the Ghost Bride I eagerly looked forward to Yangsee Choo’s next book. This book takes place in Malaysia in the 1930’s. The heroine, who works as a dance hostess, is given a mummified finger in a glass bottle. She needs to find the body it belongs to and bury it. Ms Choo is such a captivating writer that this works as a plot device. I read it in 2 days because I didn’t want to put it down.

I liked the story except that the heroine's oblivion to Shin's interest sometimes had me knocking my head against the wall. C'mon, really? But the story and the writing were wonderfully flavored with the Malayan culture, which was a big draw for me. Refreshing to not have to read a cookie-cutter plot with stilted characters. Highly recommend.

Each chapter consists of what amounts to a blog post, some hyperlinks, a profile of some famous vagabond cribbed from a wikipedia entry (Thoreau, Whitman), quotations from literature and vapid travel writers. Basically the amount of author written content here is about 80 pages of a 240 page book. The rest is filler. This is a trick of Tim Ferris disciples; you get a bunch of other people to more or less write the book for you. Then the people you quote or tout write glowing reviews. Ferris books actually contain useful information; this one, well, maybe it is useful to someone. Not to me.And what content. Banal "be humble while traveling" advice. Egg noodle fortune cookie hokum. Weird "you can do it" wowzerism. Useless "avoid getting Montezumas revenge" and "try not to be a crime victim" advice.I'm a fairly seasoned traveler, contemplating doing a several month nomad jag. This book is not helpful to me. I am assuming there is some population somewhere; 20 year old backpackers who don't read their Lonely Planet guides maybe. I'm not that guy.

I'm still reading this book (about 3/4 of the way through) but am geting caught up writing reviews. It's not a mystery - I doubt there will be surprises in the last quarter of the book.This book is a MUST for anyone contemplating a long period of time away from home base. My husband and I will be traveling for 18 months or so with only a quick stop off at home once or twice to catch up with family and friends. We often take off for a month or six weeks and were planning our 18 months in the same kind of way. After reading Vagabonding, we've changed our outlook altogether and are feeling even more excited (if that's possible) about getting started.The book is full of helpful websites and anecdotal examples to better explain and back up the author's tips.Even experienced travelers such as ourselves benefit immensely from reading this book.

Truly inspiring book! Rolf gets to the point by decoding one of the most fascinating aspects of life: exploring new cultures and places. He does in such a humbling and sincere fashion that has impacted my life since I first read it, a handful years ago. Although I have always enjoyed immersive and simple travel experiences, after reading this book I saw myself traveling in a more reflective manner. I was actually motivated to go on 4-month bicycle tour across the country, as well as on a handful mountain climbing expeditions in different continents. That all said, traveling doesn't have to be expensive—it's all about how we feel the world around us. After all, I genuinely believe we all can leave our comfort zones to explore the unknown.

This book did an amazing job distinguishing the difference between people who take vacations and people who travel instead. A few of the websites are dated, but I still believe this book is a great place to start exploring the differences between vacationers and travelers, especially if you’re bored with the traditional vacation options and want a more meaningful vacation.For me, vacations are not so much time to get away and relax, but more of a time to explore and have memorable and meaningful experiences in life.This book does a fine job pointing out many do’s and don’ts when it comes to traveling, and it also introduces us to different attitudes to enhance our holiday experience. It’s one of those, “you don’t know what you don’t know.”This book is one of those books, that you’ll say, wow I wish I would have read this years ago, but beware it might spoil your traditional vacation spots forever.

I'm the kind of person who, as a child, the teacher would have to shoo the birds away from the window, because I could never pay attention in class. I couldn't help it. I daydreamt about the freedom of those wonderful winged creatures and how, if they didn't desire this spot or that one, they could easy flap their wings and fly away. I still do this...So when I was working and listening to the Tim Ferriss podcasts and how he sounded so passionate about travel, it rekindled that fire. I picked up a couple of other travel books and it seemed, no matter what or who, this book was mentioned. I hesitated because I couldn't explain the price when so much is free on the net. However, I finally did it when I realized it wasn't a simple purchase but an investment to my desires and dreams.I regret not buying this sooner! It was multiple times more useful from it's impressive amount of knowledge and links and book names to further enhance one's study to wherever in the world one wants to go! For the first time since the Corps, I'm looking at long term travel again - but on my terms! Thank you Rolf, for this work of art, and to all those who helped push this book. I add my name to that list proudly! Again, this isn't a simple purchase of fancy, this is a great self-investment with huge returns!

This book was very well written. It gives a lot of resources concerning traveling vagabond style. When I bought it, I had no plans to be a vagabond and still don't but it did give me some confidence, curiosity and possibly even a little more interest in traveling the world by foot, plane, bus, camel, bike or whatever mode of transportation I might find in these exotic places. It gives me a feeling that there is a certain group of people who know a secret that others who don't travel this way are not privy to. He gives great advice and if you plan to travel, even like a normal tourist, you would be wise to read this book first so you can really savor your experiences instead of going through the motions. Very recommended for anyone whether they plan to travel or not!

A wonderful book written with humility. The author offers ideas and suggestions and talks about his own choices, but makes it clear that everyone’s adventure is unique and just because he did things one way, that is not the only way. So, if you’re the youngest in a big family where it seems like everyone has already “done everything”, this is the book for you. It’s about your adventure, not about the adventures others have already had.
