I purchased three of these books for my grandchildren. They are beautiful. Their ages are 8, 7, and 6. The binding is beautiful and looks like something from a fancy library. The pictures fill the page and are beautiful with the right amount of information about each animal. I fell in love with this book the first time I saw it. I have shown it to many and I am sure they purchased it also.

You cannot go wrong with this book, no matter the age. And I LOVE that it has a "visual guide" so that young children who are not reading yet can still identify the animal in the back of the book and help with finding the correct page. The quality is superb; the gold-edged pages make it very special. When it's time to choose books in the evening to read before bedtime, this one is almost always chosen.

I bought two, one for each of my preschool grandchildren. It is a gorgeous book inside and out. Chock-full of fascinating information, excellent photography and art, it has become a favorite book for both children.

One of my friends ordered it special cause it came out in 1964 so we waited for it by the mail-box daily till it came . (disclaimer) Ha! Ha!. The book was responsible for changing the way we view the world and our selves. We did loose our ego's. We did experience most of the levels in the book as real to us. Nothing short of a full on Eastern Mystical experience. The real thing only from a drug and an instruction book. With out the book we had no way of labeling our experiences so as to identify them as they happened. We missed a lot without the book, although the intensity of the experience was self explanatory with out it.Today My feet are on the ground but still I study and practice being in the "Now" Echart Tolle is a good source for today on getting there on the Nach! I dont recommend use of any drugs or mind altering substances because with drugs you come down and forget how you got there. But today we have many books and practices that get you there for real and forever. Remember this is a life time work to be done by everybody regardless of your religion or belief but without Drugs. The bottom line is to see and diminish the ego domination of you personality and see and feel your pure, innocent nature as a human being. I'm 70 years old now. I took my first L.S.D trip when I was 18. That experience changed the way I saw the whole system so I had problems adjusting to society and life in general. But today I have a good handle on whats real and what's not real. Remember It's your mind that interprets everything.Your mind is all stored past memory. So you see through the past. When you loose the ego the past dies' so whats left is "what is". Thats where you start to understand whats true and whats false in life. Good Luck, R

When someone I know dies, falls into a comma, comes out of a psychotic episode, or decides to dive into the abyss, I make sure to have this book on me for the recitations- just in case.None of the negative reviews of this book take into account it's historical importance. The Books of the Dead are still seen today by conventional authorities as Funerary Rituals, which is true, but the funeral the rituals are for is not simply the body, but the ego- which is most likely the "psychedelic experience" referred to in the title. "Psychedelic", I believe it says in the book, is not restricted to drug induced experiences, and drugs are not the only way to suppress and/or kill the ego.This book is not simply a manual for trippers, hence what I assume is the confusion I see expressed in these reviews. Though it might be thought of, or even marketed that way, that is simply too narrow a view of this work. It is in fact, a manual for the Tibetan Book of the Dead (aka The Tibetan Book of Coming Forth by Day). I see no negative comments here by anyone claiming to have read that book. I definitely suggest read it, and even Yents' other books, before attempting to fully grasp this one.🙏

This book is an invaluable resource of information about the psychedelic experience for anyone who's thinking about undertaking the experience, especially if they're apprehensive about it, or anyone who wants to try to understand a little bit more about it without trying illegal or legal drugs. The psychedelic experience is one that is overwhelmingly and incorrectly associated with other drug experiences, and this book, whether it means to or not, does a great job of explaining that the psychedelic experience is more of a religious experience than plain drug experience.It's an irrefutable fact that every one of the world's major religions and wisdom traditions had a psychedelic drug ritual attached to them, even Christianity has his halos based on mushroom caps and art containing mushrooms everywhere. Timothy Leary went so deep with studying various ancient wisdom traditions to understand or explain or better navigate the psychedelic experience and this book does that 'beautifully.' The Tibetan Book of the Dead and Buddhism as a whole go brilliantly hand in hand with psychedelics, as if they were made for each other, but the inexperienced would need a little guidance to link some of the concepts with one to the concepts of the other, and that's what this book seeks to do. In my deeply experienced opinion, it succeeds 'gloriously.'

I got this book years ago. I don't paint a lot of flowers, but when I do, I find this book of great value.it is a small sized book, and some people feel this is a negative thing. I find this book to be a good size for travel. I used it as a reference book for flower types, colors, species and habitats.iv lent it out several times, and once gave a copy as a gift. everyone loved it. two people did not want to give it back. I got this book on clearance when borders went out of business, and Im so glad to have it. its held up well after ten years of use, so its a well made book. mine is spiral bound. I think this is why it's held up so well.one thing though, its not a book that shows you how to paint flowers. you will learn a little bit about painting flowers but its most valuable when you want to have a particular type or color of flower in your paintings.

I love that about 70% of this book is step by step instructions on how to paint flowers in watercolour. Many watercolour books only have vague tips that are helpful in watercolour overall but don't teach you how to paint specific things. This book has both! The writing and images are clear and helpful. I think this book would be useful to all but the most advanced floral watercolour painters. I can't wait to complete all the flower paintings. Very pleased with this book.

Love the book and it's instructions but since I bought the Kindle version I didn't realize that it would not be in color. A little senseless to buy a how-to Watercolor book that you can only see in Black's white.

I received this book as a gift. I think it has its pros and cons. That's why I didn't give 5 stars.Pros: 1. has a great varieties of flowers. 2. teaches you different shapes and colors.3. provide great example of artworks from different artists and styles. 4. gives you general idea about paint, brushes, masking fluid, etc.Cons: 1.Doesn't progress in teaching. All the example are to the same degree of detail, which is not very detail. 2. Repeated color and shapes. Each color has many example, but they are very similar. Sometimes some flowers will be repeated in different color. But from a learning point of view, you don't learn much new things with different example.I found it helpful when I am using it as reference to explore new flowers that I haven't paint before. The general color guide is helpful so that I don't try to mix too many colors and make mud. But I also try to not just copy the example and go further with the steps. I attached a couple flowers that I did with the guide. Hope you have fun painting too.

I wanted to learn to make beautiful watercolor flower paintings and I found the right book! It has such beautifully detailed info on each flower and tells you what colors to mix to paint each kind realistically. This is my "go to" textbook for flower painting now.

I've learnt so much from this book. The step-by-step instructions are clear and some of the exercises seem relatively easy. However, I found that the steps aren't illustrated so well.... For example, in step2, you paint something, only to realise that step 3 doesn't connect, as if you should have done something extra in step 2 that was not explained.... that is quite confusing for me. Also, the style of the flowers also seems really old school .... not very contemporary. Even then, this is my go-to step-by-step resource and I think because of it, I'm so much better at watercolor than when I'd just begun. So I do recommend this book for absolute beginners.

There is a lot of info packed into this small book! The most basic info is also included: color, composition, painting techniques, paper and supplies, etc. so beginners will benefit, too. As an intermediate painter but new to flowers, I found it to be extremely helpful. I especially liked the Flower Painters Palette page that lists recommended paints with the "must have" colors noted. The flowers are grouped according to color. Each kind of flower includes 3- or 4-step how-to-paint illustrations listing paint colors used. This book contains a wealth of information, about 140 plants--flowers, leaves and berries--are represented within its 192 pages including a 3-page index. I like the wire-spiro binding, the book lays flat. Highly recommend it to those wanting to learn how to paint flowers. There are examples of many artists' work in addition to the how-to illustrations exposing the reader to a variety of styles. This book is printed in full color (and nicely printed.) It's small size was not a problem for me, I learned a lot and find this a great addition to my reference library.

Love this book. Not only is it spiral bound but also made solid and just the right size to throw in a hand bag to take with you to read anywhere. There are 192 pages of colorful flowers and step by step instructions to paint them. I will use this book often. I recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to paint flowers in watercolor.

It's a very small book, so pay attention to the size. I do like spiral bindery. I wanted to give it as a gift for a new painter and there wasn't enough 'how to' illustrations so I returned it.

I got the EV3 for my 7 year old son as soon as it came out. By accident, we ended up with the educational version. The instructions provided were not clear enough to get us easily up and running. I started buying other EV3 books. They generally assumed that one had done Mindstorms previously. I just did not have time to help my son figure the thing out, and it sat in a box for months.Then this book arrived. We are up and running, and my son is engrossed and so am I. The author gives terrific detail, and has small projects scattered through each chapter to help develop understanding of each of the features. We work through a few pages each evening, and do one or two projects (e.g., program the EV3 to do a figure 8). These projects are perfect.As to the educational version vs the home version..... I splurged and got the expansion set. It turns out that this just has a lot of Technics-type structural pieces. It does not have new motors or sensors. The educational packs has all of the motors and sensors of the home version with two exceptions: the remote control sensor and related beacon. I got those thru the lego site. There may be a few add'l pieces that we'll need in the future to build all of the projects in this book, but we are 1/4 the way thru and haven't found them.I'd also refer you to the book's website, which has a lot of useful information. The author has also kindly responded to specific questions (relating to education vs home versions), and has been quite helpful. So...can't recommend this more enough. I recommend it to all home users as well as school clubs.

Great book and easy to follow. This is exactly the kind of book I needed to fully understand how to program the ev3. There are a ton of books that show you how to build robots, but they never fully explain the programming part, which is in my opinion the biggest part about building robots. And there are other books that are too intense are the programming side. This one is right in the middle. My son always wants to build these robots, but then just wants to control them with the little controller. I tell him that now it's just an R/C toy and we could have saved money buying an R/C car. Understanding robots not only involves how to build them, but also how to program them, and this book does a good job with both.

Big Thanks to the author, Laurens Valk. I bought the Mindstorms EV3 #31313 and this book at the same time. The day this came in, my 9 yr old girl spent a couple of hours by herself one night and made the EXPLOR3R without any help. She never had any prior experience, I was thinking I might need to study this with her to help, but I was blown away by what I saw in the morning. This quick leap would not have been possible without this book as reference. She is progressing day by day using the book, learning the programming. Illustrations and pictures are spot on. Quite happy it turned out the best for a beginner child. I’d recommend it to every parent.

For those of you who want to know about Mindstorms and can understand some programming helps. This is truly written for your Lego Teen fanatic. It is super for those who want to understand this Lego Robot machine and programming better.Love it.It did help the tag along Mom understand this robot but it is very detailed and some of it needs more attention then I could give it at that time.It would be the perfect handbook for any gifted and talented parent and student as well as teacher. It is worth the read. It is worth the purchase.

I liked the book a lot and it is a very easy step by step description of the EV3 system, the software programming and the sensors and actions one can do - strangely, my 8 yr old preferred to just play and try all the available buttons rather than reading this 'manual' - so this turned out to be not so useful for the intended audience, but helped me help my kid to not be frustrated with the EV3

Our one frustration with this book is that is goes with the retail version of the Mindstorm and we have the educational version. So the pieces don't line up exactly correctly. My kids have still had a great time building things from this book though - they just have to get a bit creative when it calls for a piece they don't have in their set.

If you're buying Lego Mindstorms, you really should get this book, too. It contains lots of great projects with easy-to-follow instructions. My grandson has built just about every project in the book and he loves it.

This is an excellent book.As a long-time professor, this is the book I'd like my name on. The diagrams are very clear and the writing is helpful and informative. I bought the book (and the Mindstorms kit) for my grandsons, but first I wanted to build one of the robots in the book and to do some programming for it in case I needed to help my grandsons with the versions they build. I can see it will be very easy to turn over this book and the Mindstorms components to my grandsons.
