for students of Ancient Greek, there's another choice focusing on Accentuation, Probert's A New Short Guide to the Accentuation of Ancient Greek (BCP Advanced Greek & Latin Language) (BCP Advanced Greek & Latin Language). While Carson focus on NT Greek, Probert focus on a wider period, from Classical to Koine. Probert has some advantage:(1) Chapter I gives some info about the background and historical knowledge about Greek Accent, which is very interesting; (2) Chapter V give rules about the base form of noun words. (3) while it is a workbook as the author asserts, it can still be used as a referrence book. Carson's advantage is (1) list patterns of accents for every declention and conjugation, and even give lists of words fitting that pattern. (2) divided by lessons, and one can follow step by step. these two books can be read together to get a better understanding of the Greek accent.
I have been learning biblical Greek over the last couple of years primarily using Mounce's texts Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar,Basics of Biblical Greek Workbook,Morphology of Biblical Greek, The, and Wallace Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics. While this has been generally satisfactory, I had consistent problems with the placement and choice of accents. Carson's book has provided a systematic treatment of accent placement that has provided the "missing link" for me. While there is still memorization involved, his framework of rules reduces the number of distinct instances. I highly recommend this book to any student of ancient or hellenistic Greek.

I would give five stars to the author but no more than three to the book- average four. While Dr Carson has done an excellent job in making accent rules clear and providing good exercises, the edition of the book I bought needs more clarity in its diacritics on Greek words. In some cases breathings look like blobs and so do some accents. It looks as though the pages have been reduced in size and the Greek font seems smaller than the one used for the English text.One other tiny point- The author could have given the well-worn title of "the sotera rule" to General Rule 5, always an aid in remembering it.
Thisis the best book covering Greeks Accents that I have found. I found it to be quite thorough.
I needed a reference work to decipher the complex rules of Greek Accentuation. This is an excellent manual with the information set out in an admirable way. It fully deserves five stars. Unfortunately, it does not cover the Accentuation of Attic Greek, concentrating instead on the Greek of New Testament. As such, not all the material covered in the book is applicable to Attic. It has its uses but students of Attic Greek should handle with care. The missing star reflects this little issue.
Simply excellent. Thorough coverage of the topic, but also offers insights into grammar as a sort of bonus along the way.
Few Greek students really master accents in their first year or so, and that's partly because most books teach accents badly. Here is a book that explains Greek accents clearly and simply, telling you everything you need to know. Especially valuable when you start writing things in Greek for your students and don't want to embarrass yourself on a regular basis.
