I highly recommend this book. It was simply written and very enjoyable. The author sets out to explain the African/black ancestry of the Hebrews using forensic anthropology, and did a masterful job! I would recommend purchasing his Volume I as well. These are must have books to add to your library a must have for anyone who is interested in history.

I perused it 1st X..have now read thru twice! Highly recommend if seeking more about true history instead of that gooblegook they handed us in school! I wish they would teach TRUE history of all things instead of lies. The more true history i read the more I see how the lies they are feeding our kids is ruining everything. I am now teaching mine true history & stopping the lies. Just think..we are really 100 to 200 years ahead in tech & all but they only give it 2 us a little @ a X. Most ppl cannot bare the reality of things..so they rather believe lies than truth. How sad!

Having seen the biz from three sides (author, editor, agent), Olga Litowinsky gives us a frank, refreshing, and often scary alternative to the glut of "Read this and you WILL get published, GUARANTEED!" tomes crowding the shelves.From editors who steal ideas for successful new book series to editorial meetings where potentially great books meet their end, "It's a Bunny-Eat-Bunny World" takes the reader behind closed doors to see the stuff we're not supposed to see. The book also follows the publishing adventures of a fictionalized author selling his first book and showing the first-time author what to expect after signing on the dotted line. If you are just learning to write for publication, you need this book. Though it’s Out-of-Print, you can buy a paperback copy for a penny plus postage. My first book was published in the mid-seventies, but I still had much to learn about the business of writing and finding a publisher. In the early nineties, I discovered this author’s book, WRITING AND PUBLISHING BOOKS FOR CHILDREN. It answered many of my newbie questions and moved me forward into the list of authors of children’s books. Then in 2001 this experienced former editor and author of children’s books, expanded on her first book to cover the entire publishing process. Today I have 32 published books, thanks to much of what I learned from the “bunny” book.Children’s book publishing has changed considerably since my first book was published and it’s a challenge to keep up with what is going on. But you need to learn the basics first. I re-read this book last week and found my time well spent. Granted some things have changed, but if you are just starting out, I highly recommend you get your own copy, sit down with your highlighter, and read it carefully. Once you have absorbed its pages, you will be ready to move on to “Writing for Children 201.-Hope Irvin Marston, author of EYE ON THE IDITAROD: AISLING’S QUEST.

While there's some good material in this book, there's a lot that I skimmed over, and could have been ommited. Litowinsky seems eager to prove that she's earned her way (and she has). But she does this by writing pages on subjects that are of dubious value to the budding author. For example, we all know of the massive numbers of mergers in this field, but the book droned on for several pages about who bought whom, most of which will be out of date by the time it is read. Again, near the end, there's a lot about the production process that seemed less than valuable, with the one tidbit about books with multiple of 32 pages buried in a bunch of minutiae.The guidelines for composition and editing are superb, though, and alone merit the reading of this book.

This is easily one of the best books available about writing for children. It provides a clear explanation about the factors that acquisition editors consider when evaluating manuscripts and explains how to avoid looking like one of those writers who believes that children will read anything so long as it is cute. It also shows how to make a submission look professional and describes the proper etiquette of approaching editors and agents. Several books are available about this subject but this one, in my opinion, gives the most specific, helpful, and realistic advice.

Olga Litowinsky gives writers and aspiring writers exactly what they've long hoped for: a totally honest, realistic picture of children's book publishing with good, solid suggestions for submitting and promoting their books. She offers the evolvement of children's book publishing from the early days, in which editors made publication choices, to the present time, in which marketing departments play a large part in the selection of what is published. In my opinion, this is the finest, most helpful book ever written for readers who are writers or who hope to be published children's book writers.

About the Author

Stephen Blundell did his undergraduate degree in Physics and Theoretical Physics at Peterhouse, Cambridge and his Ph. D. in the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge. He moved to the Clarendon Laboratory at Oxford to take up an SERC research fellowship, followed by a Junior Research Fellowship at Merton College, where he began research in organic magnets and superconductors using muon-spin rotation. In 1997 he was appointed to a University Lectureship in the Physics Department and a Tutorial Fellowship at Mansfield College, Oxford, and was subsequently promoted to Reader and then Professor. He was a joint winner of the Daiwa-Adrian Prize in 1999 for his work on organic magnets.Katherine Blundell did her undergraduate degree in Physics and Theoretical Physics at New Hall College, Cambridge and her Ph. D. in the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge. She moved to Oxford University Astrophysics department, holding a Junior Research Fellowship at Balliol College, an 1851 Research Fellowship, before taking up a Royal Society University Research Fellowship. Her research concentrates on radio galaxies and quasars. In 2005 she won a Leverhulme prize for her research, and became a Professor of Astrophysics in 2008.

Book is good, as expected. The shipping was terrible. The book was shipped in only a bubble envelope and one corner was ripped open and scuffed the book corner. I would press for a return but I needed it for class. Not happy with shipping quality.

This is a fun book to read. No. Really. It is! It is rare for a physics book to talk about spherical chicken or nut roasts, for example. The principles and examples are clearly delineated. There are margin notes from the authors. Suggestions for what math you need for certain sections. Biographies of major players in thermal physics. And suggestions for further reading for some chapters.

I would rate this one of the better undergraduate physics books. Why? Because it most effectively teaches and stresses the important physics behind thermodynamics; this is something that most textbooks don't do. Once the physics are learnt and deeply understood, going up to higher level books is easy. Having said that, the book could be improved by the authors having given more (at least 2x as many) questions as they have in the current book.

I used this book in conjunction with Kittel for an upper division undergraduate course, and was extremely happy that I did. I constantly turned to this text when Kittel became too dense and confusing. This text really helped clarify many of the essential concepts of this course. In addition, I consistently used this as a reference. This book consolidates important information and equations very clearly and concisely; something that Kittel does very poorly.However, Kittel was still essential in getting at the root of the physics behind the concepts. Kittel is a much deeper book when asking "Why?". Blundell and Blundell is a wonderful text, but is not the best stand-alone text. I highly recommend it as a supplemental text.

I'm writing this the day after the third Republican presidential debate. I doubt any of the candidates read The Entrepreneurial State, but they should have.This book debunks plenty of myths, most notably that keeping government "out" of the economy is the best way to stimulate growth in three key ways.First, it demonstrates the ways in which national governments have contributed to the success of today's iconic companies, including my beloved Apple.Second, it shows that far from "picking winners" improperly as politicians claim, public/private partnerships provide leadership for key sectors of the economy, whether that be national security (where it has been most pronounced) to environmental security (where it is arguably most needed).Third, it makes the case for an economy based on partnerships in which the state and the private sector share both the risks and the rewards for economic innovation.I would have liked the book to go even farther and look at the role such partnerships could/should play in an interdependent networked economic system, but it does enough to warrant a read by just about anyone interested in social change, including a peacebuilder like me.

The importance of the public sector as a key player in an innovative ecosystem is not often acknowledged nor well understood. In a brilliant book, the author has made the case for the public sector role persuasively. In a world that glorifies individual entrepreneurs and venture capitalists as the risk takers who drive the innovative economies, readers of this book will be led to realize that it is quite often the public sector investors who have been the true risk takers with respect to the innovations that have made the most impact on society. Another key insight provided is that when the rewards for innovation and risk taking are disproportionately allocated to those whose risks are relatively modest (i.e. venture capital) this creates an innovation system that increases inequality and is less sustainable than one which rewards risk takers (public and private) more fairly. Unless the public sector can reap rewards that recognize its role in the creation and regulation of new markets, the innovation system will be less likely to create major breakthroughs like the internet, nanotechnology, etc. The clear message of this book is that a true innovation system that is sustainable and that will create transformational change requires the full participation of the private sector and the public sector working together to do what each does best.

I first learned about this book when I heard an hourlong podcast where Mariana Mazzucato, the author, is interviewed by Stella Creasy who is a London School of Economics trained Labour Party member of parliament, about Mazzucato's research findings and policy proposals.Lately, we have been hearing some bold proposals about a Green New Deal. Many have dismissed this idea as pie in the sky. Some have supported it as crucially necessary to the survival of the planet, but have been vague as to how to actually bring this about. Well, Mariana Mazzucato, Chair in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value, and Director of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at University College, London, addressed this very issue in her 2015 book, "The Entrepreneurial State." She points out that our current economy is built around fossil fuels, and that to address climate change will require a large restructuring of our basic economy. This will include building new Public-Private partnerships, and innovation that will create new jobs, new security and repair infrastructure. To accomplish this, we first have to let go of false myths we hold about the responsibility as well as the competence of the state. Mazzucato does a superb job of debunking those myths in this book. While parts of the book are fairly dense, even a non-economist like me can understand most of her points. This is a must read by anyone interested in saving the planet and by all policy makers.

In this book, Mazzucato makes the argument that the state is the best actor to be the one to make long-range investments in technology, as private actors under capitalism are too focused on short term rewards to really be able to focus on real blue ocean development.In fact, she argues, some of the more celebrated examples of private innovation can be linked to research and investment the state has made. This process of celebrating the private corporation has a way of erasing what the state has done and allows political rhetoric to attack research the state does. Her best example in the book is the Apple iPhone, where she looks at the basic research from the internet to mobile telephony to interface design that goes back to work governments did starting thirty or more years ago. I think as a reader that this example is strong enough to support her basic argument, but she also continues in the book to look at solar power as another example. Because this isn’t as widespread as the iPhone and its clones, it feels like a weaker example, even if down the road it will be more prevalent than the iPhone.

Mazzucato's analysis is absolutely brilliant and this is extremely well written. Anyone who believes that governments are useless should read this book. It really opened my eyes to the innovative aspects of government institutions, and the extent to which they are not only entrepreneurial themselves, but enable other entrepreneurs to build fortunes off of government innovation and investment.
